London Brick

2008 cast plaster and reformed wooden palettes.

Sculptures responding to and cast from a London brick wall in my studio. The London brick, a vehicle for industrialising London at the time of massive worldwide expansion of the empire.  the spreading of colonial movement and power.

Some works show the brick forms with wood salvaged from the ubiquitous transport pallet. Endeavour, referencing the boat that ‘discovered’ Australia, resembled a boat where the sail was made up of panels of cast brick. The works speak to the reach and homogenising of the British Empire.
