Shift Gallery, London, 2012
Shift Gallery was set within a council estate in Mile End, utilising a Bows Art live/work unit. This was the last exhibition to be held in the gallery; the building was demolished with the installation still intact. The building was predominantly social housing, but was to give way to ‘luxury’ apartments. TO WHAT END questioned the hierarchy of spaces. The interior referenced the boarded-up language of the estate, set in opposition to added wooden panelling referencing an interior that would more likely be preserved in historically listed interiors.
